The Anti- Bride Wedding Plan

When it comes to planning your wedding, there's no one-size-fits-all approach. If you're an anti-bride who wants to do things differently, there are plenty of ways to create a special day that reflects your personality and values. I can talk from experience, the more we had it our way, the more fun we had throwing the whole thing!

Here are some ideas to get you started:

  1. Choose a unique location:

Instead of booking a traditional wedding venue, consider hosting your wedding in a backyard garden, a local park, or a historic building. Choosing a location that has personal meaning to you can make your day feel more special and intimate. We opted for a pecan grove airbnb situation because it gave us the freedom to not have a curfew AND get married in the morning.

  2. Elope:

If you're not interested in inviting 300 people you barely know to your wedding, consider eloping instead. You can still have a beautiful and meaningful ceremony without the stress of planning a large event. Plus, you'll have more flexibility in choosing your location and can focus on making your day about you and your partner. My personal favorite location is Mexico and Big Bend! I have a ton of suggestions for Big Bend Elopements and I will create a blog for you soon.

  3. Wear something non-traditional:

If the thought of wearing a white wedding dress doesn't excite you, don't feel like you have to conform to tradition. Consider wearing a colorful or non-traditional dress, or even a suit or jumpsuit. Bring on the sparkles or even the white bathing suits. You make your day what it is. The most important thing is that you feel comfortable and confident on your special day.

  4. Opt for a smaller wedding party:

You don't have to have a large bridal party if that's not your style. Consider having just one or two close friends or family members stand by your side on your special day. This can make the day feel more intimate and personal. Nick and I opted for none. We felt it was much more important for us to not have any distractions and the ceremony to be as intentional as possible.

  5. Serve food that reflects your personality:

Instead of serving a traditional wedding dinner, consider serving food that reflects your personality or cultural background. Whether it's a food truck serving your favorite tacos or a buffet of your favorite comfort foods, your guests will appreciate the personal touch. We are HUGE foodies. The experience is everything for us, so we created an experience for our friends and family. We had a Flying Dinner, where all the courses were passed around like cocktail hour treats including palette cleansers in between courses and desserts at the end. everything was hand held and came with its small plate or utensil. Most were finger foods. It was EPIC!

  6. Get creative with decor:

Instead of relying on traditional wedding decor, get creative and DIY your own decorations. Consider using vintage items or repurposed materials to create a unique and personalized look. or simply use the surrounding location as your decorations. We kept it simple and used vintage furniture to transform the small space. Our guest list was small and that made it easy for us to have everything we wanted while not having to go overboard to fill a large space. Gardens are also a great way to keep it simple because there is already so much going on you don’t have to add much.

  7. Choose a non-traditional time of day:

If you're not interested in a traditional evening wedding, consider getting married earlier in the day or even at sunrise. This can create a beautiful and unique atmosphere for your special day. This is my favorite part! And it also gets rid of the headache of having to wait around to get ready all day. Plus, You get to do your own hair and makeup.

  8. Do your own hair and makeup:

If makeup isn’t your thing, why put a ton of it on for your wedding day? The anti- bride is all about showing up exactly as we are. Plus, you know your hair best, and most updo’s end up falling out or being too tight, so this is your call to cancel your hair and makeup appointments and give your self a simple and elegant look of being exactly who you are!

Remember, your wedding day is about you and your partner, and there's no right or wrong way to celebrate. Whether you choose to elope or host a backyard garden party, the most important thing is that you feel happy and fulfilled. It will be a day of immense love, get ready to feel the most loved you have ever felt in your life.
